Why 'Dad' style is now the epitome of cool

We used to (lovingly) tease my dad about his holiday sandals. They were a Velcro-fastened style that he picked up in Portugal in 1993. How embarrassing, we thought, as he emerged for the hotel breakfast buffet in his trusty slides for the 23rd year in a row. But then, in the past few years, this whole vibe has become the height of fashion. Slides shot from awkward to the most achingly cool summer shoe of choice. And wearing something again and again chimed perfectly with a new conscious approach. Could my dad have unwittingly become a style icon?
