'BA blamed my three-hour delay on wind. This is how I won €500 compensation'

Dear Katie,

For my partner’s birthday treat we flew to Glasgow for a weekend break, but our British Airways flight from Heathrow was delayed.

We arrived in Scotland more than three hours late and when we got to the hotel the champagne I had ordered for our arrival was sitting in an ice bucket of tepid water. I applied for compensation but BA said we were not eligible.

When I persisted it changed its reason for not paying. Currently it is blaming windy weather, which it said was beyond its control.

I asked for proof of this but BA said it was confidential and refused provide it. So I obtained my own information from the Met Office, showing the winds did not reach more than 23 knots at Heathrow...
