Earlier this year, we revealed the 10 capital cities with the lowest air pollution on Earth, based on World Health Organisation (WHO) data on average levels of PM2.5 particles (those that measure two and a half microns or less in width).
Here are 12 more lesser-known (but enticing) places where the air is a pleasure to breathe. For reference, the PM2.5 reading in London as we wrote this was 99.

Extremadura is Spain’s most overlooked region, according to Sally Davies, with good food, even better wine and three cities worth exploring. “Trujillo and Cáceres are stunning, my favourite towns in Spain,” she says.
The region is renowned for its cherry blossom, and head for the nearby rock formation of Los Barruecos, a Game of Thrones filming location.
