Before the age of smartphones and Instagram, there was the cruise photographer – a designated member of staff who documented every part of your holiday at sea. These snaps captured travellers in candid moments, and are far more interesting mementos than staged photos for social media.
Ian Hughes worked aboard cruises in Italy and United States as one such photographer in the 1980s and 1990s, and has accumulated a fascinating archive of images over the years. Here, he shares some of his most amusing work, dubbed "Love Boat Rejects", in reference to the popular American comedy series, was was filmed on a Princess Cruises ship. Brace yourself for a funny blast from the past.
