Phuket's eye-popping beaches are perhaps its biggest draw – miles and miles and miles of the finest white sands lapped by water as green as Listerine, with opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, SUP-ing and kayaking a-plenty. All of Thailand's beaches are public, but facilities are few. Don't expect lifeguards – or even warning flags in many cases. Waters are lake calm in high season (December to March) but take care swimming out of season. The beaches concentrated around Phuket's southwest coast (Patong, Karon, Kata) are the busiest, flanked by beach bars, cafés and jet ski operators – buyer beware of the latter.
